Mantle Climate is a Toronto-based climate strategy consultancy focused on future-proofing the built environment. We partner with municipalities, community-serving organizations, and real estate owners and developers to align business and operational success with climate leadership. Specializing in climate risk and resilience, sustainable design and construction, and strategy and climate disclosures, our multidisciplinary team delivers practical solutions to help our clients stay ahead in a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.

At Adaptation Canada

Come join us for our panel session “Climate Resilience Hubs: Building Resilience from the Ground Up” on Thursday, September 24, at 1:30 PM in Pier 3.

Resilience hubs are emerging as vital anchors for community adaptation, providing essential resources and networks to help vulnerable populations withstand and recover from climate hazards. This session brings together leaders and collaborators from organizations actively building resilience hubs to share real-world experiences, lessons learned, and strategies for success.

What We Do

Designing and Activating Climate Resilience Hubs

We work with community-serving organizations and municipalities to turn community centres, libraries, and other trusted spaces into refuges during climate emergencies. That means assessing hazard exposure at the site level and specifying what the building needs to hold: backup power, thermal comfort in extreme heat, clean air through wildfire smoke, and flood protection. We then define the services a hub should deliver before, during, and after an event, and prepare staff to run it.

Impact in Action: Lessons Learned from Implementing Climate Resilience Centres (CRCs) into the YMCA of Greater Toronto

For more than 10 years, Mantle has served as the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s climate and resilience partner. Working with the world’s largest network of Y facilities, we developed their original and updated Climate Resilience Strategy, conducted vulnerability assessments at both the building and portfolio levels, evolved facilities into resilience hubs, and built funding strategies to move the work forward.

Getting Started: Our Resilience Hub Game guides teams through the process of setting up a hub, moving from climate hazard exposure to vulnerability to adaptation strategies. Structured as a half-day workshop, it gives participants a shared view of their facility and a clearer sense of where to go next. See our Resilience Hub Game overview.

Future-Proofing Municipal Infrastructure

Climate risk and vulnerability assessments for buildings, assets, and critical systems are translated into capital planning decisions. We pinpoint where climate hazards threaten service continuity, then prioritize adaptation investments by risk reduction and co-benefits delivered.

Featured Experience: Town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia

Case Study – Wolfville Reimagines Climate Risk into a Community Asset

We identified innovative flood adaptation options to evolve an at-risk, culturally important waterfront park into a floodable park that lowers flood risk while delivering environmental, recreational, and community value.

Certifying Resilient Buildings: LEED v5

LEED v5 moves resilience from optional to expected. We work with real estate owners and developers, general contractors, architects, and municipalities from early in the design process, when the decisions that shape resilience are still inexpensive to make. Our support covers the climate resilience assessment prerequisite and related credits, future climate design considerations, and low-carbon building strategies. See our LEED v5 services.
