About the Role

At Mantle, we build climate leaders. To do that, we need smart, mission-driven team members. We focus on greening the built environment through embodied carbon life cycle assessment (LCA) management, operational carbon management, net-zero and climate resilience strategies, corporate climate reporting and disclosure, and green building certifications.

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Senior Advisor or Director (depending on candidate level of experience), Climate Resilience & Adaptation to support and expand our climate resilience and adaptation practice. This role is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can hit the ground running, and is eager to define and grow a new area of expertise within our firm. The successful candidate will support the development of consulting products, advisory services, and project execution related to climate adaptation and resilience strategies for the built environment.

Key Responsibilities

Practice Leadership: Help build out Mantle’s climate resilience and adaptation practice by supporting strategy, frameworks, and service offerings.

Advisory & Consulting: Lead client engagements, providing expert guidance on climate adaptation planning, risk and vulnerability assessments, resilience, and business continuity strategies for communities, infrastructure, operations, and real estate.

Quality Assurance: Proficiently review and validate physical climate risk and vulnerability assessments and other resilience work to ensure technical accuracy.

Product Development: Support resilience and adaptation consulting service design and delivery.

Business Development: Identify opportunities, develop proposals, write grant applications, and secure new clients and projects in the climate resilience and adaptation space.

Industry Engagement: Represent Mantle in industry forums, contribute to thought leadership, and foster key partnerships with stakeholders in the sustainability and resilience ecosystem.

Team Development: Collaborate with internal teams and provide mentorship to junior consultants to enhance expertise in climate adaptation and resilience.

Project Execution: Oversee the delivery of high-quality, data-driven physical climate risk and vulnerability assessments and climate adaptation strategies, and ensure alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

7+ years of experience working on climate change related topics, of which at least 4+ are specific to climate resilience &adaptation consulting, risk engineering, property insurance consulting, or related fields.

Demonstrated experience with climate risk and vulnerability assessments, adaptation frameworks, and resilience planning for the built environment.

Demonstrated experience interpreting climate data and modelling climate hazard exposure such as flooding, wildfire, and urban heat.

Experience working with developers, non-profit organizations, municipalities, and corporate clients on integrating climate resilience into planning and design.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, including the ability to translate technical insights into actionable strategies.

Familiarity with relevant regulations, reporting frameworks (e.g., TCFD, GRESB, ISSB, TFND), and emerging trends in climate adaptation.

An undergraduate degree in environmental science, urban planning, engineering, international development, or a related field is preferred.

Demonstrated completion of adaptation and resilience specific courses through post secondary education, continuing studies, or similar skills training.

Proven ability to develop and implement consulting products and advisory services.

Strong business development skills with experience securing and managing consulting projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion or working towards climate risk-related professional designations like the Infrastructure Risk Professional (IRP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or Global Associated Risk Professional (GARP).

Completion (or near completion) of Professional Engineering (PEng, PE, CEng, IEng etc.) or Register Professional Urban Planner licensing with a specific focus on climate resilience and adaptation in the built environment.

Master’s degree focusing on infrastructure and/or community adaptation and resilience in urban planning, engineering, environmental management, international development, or other related fields.

● Experience with geospatial system modelling like ArcGIS and QGIS, basic computer programming, and dashboard construction such as PowerBI.

● Experience with PIEVC and Canada’s climate lens work is considered an asset.

● Proven ability to develop and implement consulting products and advisory services.

● Product management experience.

● Strong business development skills with experience securing and managing consulting projects.

● Experience with green design principles, low-carbon products, and circularity concepts.
